I run a managed IT company here in the US and stumbled accross your product while trying vDOS and gave it a try as it could be useful for some of my clients.

However, no matter what I do I cannot connect.

I try to connect through my Internet providers IP and have set up port forwarding in my Linksys router to forward to port 6601 and then to my computer's internal IP of 192.168.1.119

I have unblocked port 6601 in Windows firewall as well as the application. (see images)

I created a user of Mark and a simple password. I also added notepad.exe and a portable app of Thunderbird. (see screenshots)

I am trying to connect from a wireless laptop (Win10 Pro )in my house to the "server" (another wireless computer in my house running Win7 Pro x64) but all I get is "Error while connecting to server" when I try to connect.

I also added wfc.exe to the Win10 Pro laptop as it wasn't listed in allowed apps

Not sure what I am overlooking

Hello,

Did you add a rule on your internet router firewall to unblock 6601 TCP port?

Remember to click the 'Start' button on the server window.

What exactly is the error you receive on the client? Click 'down' arrow in the error message box and send me the entire message with all numbers and brackets.

what I get is Error #2033 /10060 [VTE_OnGetApps] Error while connecting to the server.

So I think I have isolated the issue. Seems I have a Nolia fiber optics modem which is giving its own IP of 10.12.16.96  to the Linksys and when I called Linksys they believe this modem has it's own "half-bridge" router which is blocking  port 6601. I will call customer service tomorrow to verify as the Gonetspeed tech seems to believe the only way around this is a dedicated IP.

BTW what does the error msg tell you?

The error message shows that the client connection does not reach the server computer. The system error 10060 means connection timeout. Otherwise the error would be for example 10061 (connection refused). So the problem is related to the network.

So I got a static IP from my internet provider and that did the trick.

However, when I try to load PortableApps Menu (portableapps.com) I get the error msg of

Exception EReadError in module PortableAppMenu.exe at 000194A3.

Error reading trayiconMenu.Visable. Cannot create shell notification icon.

I can load each app by itself but not using the menu system.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Mark

Winflector does not support using tray icons remotely. Applications on the server use a special desktop which does not have tray, so tray icons can't be created.
