Good day everyone and greetings from Canada. We testing out your software, so far we are impressed with it's capabilities. One question that comes to mind is do we have the ability to create applications on the server side that simply open up a drive letter on the server side file explorer (windows explorer).

We have a very novice user who is used to clicking on drive letters right on his desktop that are actually shortcuts. We'd like to be apple to re-create that from winflector.

I am sorry, but I am still not sure I understand your corrrectly. Could you please describe step by step what do you expect the user's workflow to be?

Imagine on windows, you have shortcuts to your "D" drive on your desktop, you click that and it brings you to the D drive. We want to create an application in Winflector that would bring Windows explorer up to the D drive in a similar way.

I've also just tried launch windows explorer, it fails to launch (nothing happens). I can launch other simple applications like notepad.

If you have 64-bit server then you can try to use 32-bit explorer (this one from WOW64 directory). On 32-bit systems we have to think about something other.

For Firefox - please disable the graphic acceleration, like described under this link: http://lifehacker.com/disable-firefoxs-hardware-acceleration-to-fix-slowness-749344037 (Options-->Advanced-->Use Hardware Acceleration when available). I hope it will help.

As for drive sharing, in fact you really need disk mapping, not the application server, am I right?

On disk mapping - sort of.
This is a ultra low bandwidth situation, he is trying to work with files over a slow up/down link. The only way we can make this work is to virutalize an application through a option like winflector. He clicks on an excel document and it brings up excel running on the server rather than download the file through a slow link.

So, the real need is to publish (share) Excel, which can be used for ediing any file from the server.

The real need is to publish a shortcut to a drive, which in turn opens windows explorer up to that drive letter for browsing.

You know better what you need :-).
Perhaps you can try some alternatives - Total Commander works fine with Winflector. Looking for free alternatives I have found Explorer++, which is free and open source, looks promising (but not tested with Winflector yet).
